Posted by dieda khalida at 11:57 am
Have you ever heard about virtual and electronic learning? I guess, some of you are very familiar with these two words. For those who are don't know about these, let me explain to you so that you will get clear view about what the topic is all about.

1. DEFINITION OF VIRTUAL LEARNING

According to Wikipedia, Virtual Learning is an education system based on web that models conventional real-world education by integrating a set of equivalent virtual concepts for test, homework, classes, classrooms and even museums and external academic resources. It normally uses web 2.0 tools for two-way interaction and includes a content management system. The examples of virtual learning are video conferencing, newsgroup and Skype. Plus, for education purpose, it includes online registration, online registration, online counseling, online payment of fees and two way interactive live lecture.

2. DEFINITION OF ELECTRONIC LEARNING

According to Wikipedia, electronic learning or e-learning is consist of all forms of electronically supported in learning and teaching. It also may be defined as instruction delivered electronically by internet, intranets and multimedia platforms such as CD-ROM and DVD. In addition, e-learning can be implemented in a variety of ways such as through the use of self-paced independent study units which are asynchronous where participants interact at different times and synchronous where learners meet in real time.

I think, which these two definitions, you may able to get clear view about these learning method. Despite of that, these learning method also has the problems. The problems are;

Virtual learning

Internet problem
  •  Most of the students will face with this situation where there will be no internet connection to start virtual learning. Or, there will be such a server down to log in or enter the server.
Misuses of technology
  • Besides of internet problem, there will be such the misuses of technology. Some of these problems occur because of lacking of training. To avoid this thing happen, the lecturer or instructor need to be trained on how to use distance learning technology
Electronic learning:

Students need to be very comfortable using a computer
  • Slow Internet connections or older computers may make accessing course materials difficult. This may cause the learners to get frustrated and give up.
Students need to have access to a computer as well as the Internet
  • They also need to have computer skills with programs such as word processing, internet browser and e-mail. without these skills and software not possible for students to succeed in e-learning.

Scenario:

The situation is where in the e-learning class, the lecturer have give homework to students where they have to create a video through video conferencing about what they understand about e-learning. But, there have a few of the students in the class are got problem with it because they are not very expert in IT. So, as for the solution, the lecturer give the practical training to them so that they are able to use IT and complete the task that given. Have you ever encounter such this problem? Please give your situation.

So far, do you understand about virtual and electronic learning? I hope, with all the information in this entry, you are able to understand about it. Thanks for reading. Feel free to comment. :)

no doubt that both of those are really helpful, whether its synchronous or asynchronous... in other words, virtual learning or electronic learning. Both are great ways to increase one's credibility.

I also learned E-Learning when I was in semester 5 at KPMIM. Now that I'm doing my degree, almost everything is centralized around e-Learning, and I am thankful that I learned how to use it back in College, before I entered University. It is easy to understand, and easy to use.
